Meet our Coaches!

Our goals for Sacramento Masters include:

  • Positive environment for all swimmers.

  • Camaraderie with the other swimmers.
  • Excitement for each practice.
  • Structured practices that challenge your current swimming ability.
  • Coaching staff on deck to help explain the workout, spread encouragement, introduce new swimmers, evaluate swim technique and offer tips if requested.
  • Social events both at the pooland in the community.
 
Andy Brenan, Level 3 USMS Head Coach

Andy competed on CSU Sacramento’s team and first started coaching as an assistant coach for that team in 1982 and then at CSU Fresno until 1897.  He also became the head coach of the Clovis Masters Team from 1984-87 coaching a team of 125 including 50 triathletes. He has been coaching with Sacramento Masters Swim Team since 1995 and the head coach since 1999. His enjoys developing constructive and stimulating workouts to allow each swimmer find their full potential.  He is currently a Level 3 USMS Certified Coach and received the Pacific Masters Coach of the Year in 2023 and the Kerry O’Brien Coaching award in 2024.

Ellen Berg, Level 2 USMS Coach

Ellen started swimming when she was 5 yrs old. She swam for University of Washington, before making her way into Masters, and eventually joining Sac Masters about 15 years ago. She has been an assistant swim coach for age-group, high school, and Masters teams, as well as head coach of a HS boys' team in Tacoma.

 
Carina Peritore, Level 3 USMS Coach and Tri-Coach

Carina Peritore began her swimming career at the age of 14 by joining CK McClatchy's High School Swim Team in Sacramento. She played water polo in the off-season and then moved on to compete in swimming at UC Santa Cruz. After college, Carina began her career with Masters Swimming, coaching, and teaching young adults how to swim and improve their technique. After returning to California from a long stint in New England, Carina coached triathletes training for half and full Ironman’s in the art of open water swimming.

 

 
Ethan Porter
Ethan Porter began swimming at age 11 with the Cordova Blue Marlins, a recreational swim team in Rancho Cordova. He continued swimming with the team through high school before moving on to collegiate competition at UC Santa Cruz, where he also served as team captain. After college, Ethan joined Sacramento Masters and soon transitioned into coaching for both Sacramento Masters USMS and the DART USA swim teams.
